Fibre Cement Cladding FAQs
How to paint fibre cement cladding
Fibre cement cladding does not require any painting upon installation, a quick refresh with our touch-up paint, or a periodic colour upgrade is an easily achievable task. We have prepared a simple 3-step guide for best results.
Step 1: Clean the surface
Make sure that all dust and dirt is removed before you begin the process of painting your cladding. You can do that by using a power-washer to spray down the surface or you can rinse it with soapy water.
Step 2: Prime the surface
By using a primer, you can ensure that the paint adheres to the fibre cement and will not later flake off. Additionally, it contributes to the creation of a smooth surface and hides any fibre cement pores that may exist. Apply at least one primer coat before you apply the paint.
Step 3: Paint
You can start painting the fibre cement wall cladding once it has been cleaned and primed. You can use a paintbrush, roller, or sprayer to apply the paint. Paint the corners and any trim close to the top and bottom of the cladding using a paintbrush. For the entire surface, you can use a paintbrush, or a paint roller would make it simpler.
How to cut fibre cement cladding?
Cutting cement fibre cladding you must follow safe-cutting practices, however none of the tools or/and techniques are difficult to master. We recommend 2 techniques for cutting, depending on your preference:
Technique 1: Using circular saw
We recommend you use a blade with four or six teeth for best results. Use a circular saw with a dust-collection bag or an electric fan that sweeps dust into a bucket to reduce dust as much as possible.
Technique 2: Using power shears
Power shears are a slower, nearly dust-free siding cutting method. They can be purchased separately as a tool or as an add-on for a drill/driver.
What is fibre cement cladding?
Fibre cement is used as an exterior cladding material as an alternative to solid wood and PVC or vinyl cladding since it is more durable and requires less maintenance than other cladding materials. Fibre cement board cladding is extremely long-lasting because it is resistant to water and does not rot, warp, or crack. It is also insect, termite, and woodpecker resistant.
Furthermore, fibre cement exterior wall cladding is non-combustible, meaning that it will not ignite when exposed to direct flame or extreme heat. It is simple to work with and install, and with the right tools, a one-person installation is possible.
