Glass Balustrades Maintenance Guide

Glass balustrades are an aesthetically pleasing solution that can create the illusion of additional space without the long construction period.  

Whether you are fitting glass balustrades inside or outside of your property, they are a terrific low-maintenance alternative that is both durable and simple to maintain. However, like everything they require a certain level of upkeep to preserve their look over the years.  

How to clean glass balustrades? 

The best solution to your glass balustrade maintenance is to clean them using a soft cloth and warm soapy water. Contrary to popular belief, you do not actually need to use glass cleaner products to keep them fresh and clean. Using soapy water is not only cheaper, but it is the more effective and quick option.  

If you would like to install the glass balustrades outside, the maintenance method should still be the same – you may just want to be a bit more vigilant when it comes to things like birds or animal mess, which could become harder to clean if left over a long period.  

We recommend that you thoroughly clean their glass balustrades once every six months to preserve their sparkling look. This, of course, is dependent on where your balustrade is installed. A balcony glass balustrade, for example, is likely to require more maintenance than one installed on a landing. 

Routinely inspecting your balustrades for markings or debris can help you figure out what is the best cleaning routine for you.  

How to fix glass balustrade? 

There are several things that can cause damage to glass balustrading systems, such as:  

• Impact damage - this is the most typical cause for "spontaneous" fracture and may occur accidentally or on purpose 
• Edge damage - frequently takes place outside of the industrial setting during glass installation; the glass usually breaks instantly, but sometimes there is a delayed fracture 
• Poor glazing – poor fitting or later modifications to the barrier may subject the glass to excessive strain. This may eventually cause the glass to deteriorate and break 

• Bad design - the glass may become scratched and worn if the balustrade was improperly designed; this may weaken the panel over time and eventually result in the glass breaking on its own
