Spotting Damage to Your Roofline
Although your roofline components can and should have a long lifespan, there are certain cases where weather damage or uncontrollable factors can damage your roofline.
There are some signs to look out for that can help you spot any damage early and avoid more costly repairs later down the line.
Soft Patches
Soft patches in your wood can be a sign of rot in timber roofline especially. Soft spots can often occur through excess moisture and cause roofline to bend and warp.
One way to avoid this is to replace your roofline with PVC components – these have far better defence against water damage than their timber counterparts.
Cracked Paint
Cracked paint can be a general sign of ageing, which is a sure sign you need to replace your roofline.
Discoloration
If discolouration has become apparent in your roofline, it might be an indicator of water or UV damage. UV rays can sometimes cause fading of roofline elements.
Many new types of roofline are protected against this and have been designed with UV protection in mind, so if this is the case for you it might be time to upgrade your roofline.
Asbestos
Some older soffits, often those developed before 1998, can contain asbestos as one of their building materials. If you start to notice signs of asbestos or have been told your current roof contains this material, it’s a good idea to give your roof a revamp.
Any roofing projects involving asbestos should be carried out by a professional, as asbestos can be a dangerous material to work with and is best approached with the right tools and protective equipment.
Infestation
Looking for signs of bird nests or insect infestation is crucial when it comes to spotting damage in your roofline.
Again, this mostly only occurs with timber roofline, however is something to keep in mind should you have any other gaps in your PVC roofline any insects, birds or the like could settle in.
Gutter Drooping
Drooping gutters can be a sign of broken or damaged roofline. Any break in the support structures can result in gutters shifting in placement, which is a clear indicator of something awry.
If you notice any of these issues with your roofline, it means it’s time to take a closer look or get some expert advice.
