Can You Put Shower Wall Panels Over Tiles?
Shower wall panels are a great option for a quick and easy installation to refresh any bathroom. They are designed to be installed over a wide range of existing wall coverings.
Can you install shower wall panels over tiles?
In short, yes, shower wall panels can be installed over tiled wall coverings. However, this should only be done if the tiles are completely flat, undamaged, and have been degreased. This is to ensure that the panels can completely and securely adhere to the tiling.
If your tiled wall is not a flat, smooth surface, we recommend installing horizontal battens before your shower wall panelling to provide an even surface onto which the boards can be applied.
Shower wall panels can also be applied directly to plasterboard. Whether you're working with our laminate, compact or acrylic options, you can follow the steps below to get your current tiles ready to fit shower wall panels.
How to degrease shower wall tiles
If you want to fit shower wall panels directly over existing tiles, it’s best to clean the tiles to ensure that the panels adhere securely. To degrease your shower wall tiles, follow these steps:
- Use hot shower water to wash down the tiles. This will open the ceramic pores and makes it easier to clean away any dirt.
- Use a mild household cleaner to clear any lingering dirt. Spray the household cleaner and let it sit for a few seconds, then use a sponge to scrub the dirt away.
- Wash away any remaining cleaner with more water.
- If you want to install your shower panels straight away, dry the tiles with a towel – any remaining moisture will prevent the panels from adhering properly to the tiles. If you’re not installing the panels just yet, you can leave the tiled area to dry naturally.
